GARP SCR - Chapter 6 - CVar Case Study

Image
Online revision sessions    Let's read the above graph: 1. As there is no description in the article title "Climate VaR spread by primary sectors of activity" by MCSI about the weights assigned to different sectors, it is difficult to comment on Weighted average aggregated Climate Var in different sectors. 2. Arithmetic mean would be roughly the mid point of highest and lowest value of each spread. If the mean is in negative, it indicates that companies in sector are collectively profitable till now. Otherwise,  if the mean is on or near to the positive side, the sector is potentially loss making.  3. Most importantly, please note a positive CVaR hints at losses and a negative CVaR hints at profitability. I have highlighted the negative values in green box to indicate profits and positive values in red box to indicate losses. With these points in mind, let us see the different sectors in the graph and try to reason out why there are on the negative or po...

GARP SCR: Difference between SPTs and KPIs (Chapter 5)

Image
GARP SCR: Difference between SPTs and KPIs This interesting question is asked by Mayank Mohan. He is one of the members of the LinkedIn group for GARP SCR Exam prep Question is : What is the difference between SPTs (Sustainability performance targets) and KPIs? (This is the topic from Chapter 5: Green and Sustainable Finance: Markets and Instruments) To explain the difference and help the reader remember the concept for a long time, I have answered the question through a story of my childhood. Perhaps, you may be able to relate to it. Here goes the story. Enjoy! When I was growing up I had a very simple ambition that I should grow at least 10 centimeters taller to my father. So,I told my mother that you know I want to grow at least 10 centimeters more than my Father in another 5 years. She readily agreed me to help me reaching that ambition. Micro and Macro prudential measures: What are they?

Image
Micro and Macro prudential measures:What are they? This topic has been requested by Kewbie Lau who is community member of LinkedIn community . To understand the macro prudential and micro prudential measures adopted by the central bank like the Bank of England, let me give you an analogy.  For this, let me take you back to your school days and tell you a short story Imagine you are principal of a school in your current locality. It is a small school with just 5 rooms for each grade. Say, the grades Grade 1 - Grade 5. As a principal, you have an ambition that you want your entire school to excel in Maths, Science and Sports.  For this you have given the targets to your individual class teacher and told them how you would monitor the performance of each class regularly. It is obvious to you that unless and until each class performs, your school will not be able to achieve its ambitions. In other words, the performance of the school is dependent upon each class/grade...
